Montana
I have finally arrived. This is one of the first journeys across the US where I have made extensive use of hotels. The last hotel I stayed at had a workout room. Sure, you pay more for these amenities but the price is worth the convenience and piece of mind. A good friend told me to ask for the business discount and that worked at one of the hotels. I ran 8.5 miles (one trail, and two treadmills) every day that I traveled. It's certainly an accomplishment because normally I feel too overwhelmed to run over long driving distances. What I found is that running at night gave me energy when I felt fatigued. Maybe the moral of this story is: If you're still tired, you aren't pushing hard enough.
On the way here I left and rejoined I-90W with a 200 mile highway inbetween that took me into Wyoming. The speed was comparable but on a two lane road it becomes harder and harder to pass when the traffic picks up. Later I wondered if companies like Google and MapQuest might prioritize routes with a lower speed to lower the amount of emissions. For some it would make no difference but it might lower emissions for slower drivers (not me).
Note:
After I arrived I looked at an atlas and the route Google generated appears to be the fastest.
